What is the most popular food on the menu at Augusta National?

There is a lot to like about the Masters food menu, as has been widely reported. But what is the best? NCG’s Matt Chivers went and asked the patrons themselves…

  • Best food at the masters – according to the patrons

I won’t divulge how many chicken sandwiches I’ve had at the Masters.

Not out of embarrassment, but because I’ve lost count. Luckily, I’ve had access to free food in the press building, but you could easily get through some grub buffet-style without having to fork out as a Masters patron.

Hopefully, you have seen our reporting of the Masters concessions prices at Augusta National. Everything is very cheap. A Pimento Cheese sandwich is $1.50, a Pork BBQ is $3, and a soft drink is only $2. You can read more about them here.

Sure, you might place these generous rates in the context of travelling to and from Augusta National, especially if you are from the UK and you need several thousands for flights and accommodation.

Nonetheless, once you are here, you can eat well and eat cheap. The queues are long, but like the merchandise shop, they are very well organised, and you’ll get your turn to try the Masters club sandwich or the egg salad. Maybe even the Georgia Peach ice cream sandwich.

The menu is one of the many things that make Masters unique. There is no dread of an expensive round of Crow’s Next beers and there is no fear of not receiving change from a $20 note for a drink and a burger – horrors bestowed on many sports fans in other arenas on both sides of the Atlantic.

It contributes to the overall sense of joy and relaxation here at Augusta National. When I asked each patron what their favourite food item was down Magnolia Lane, their lips turned into wide smiles as they prepared to describe their delights to me.

Best food at the Masters – according to the patrons

“Definitely the Georgia Peach ice cream sandwich, and then the egg salad sandwich. The BBQ is also good too!” said Maria from Augusta, leaving no stone unturned on the menu.

“The chicken biscuit is pretty good,” said Micahel from Savannah, savouring it for the first time on his first visit.

“The Masters club sandwich – and the beer!” – said Brian from Chambers. The beer did get a mention once or twice.

“Beer – and the egg salad sandwich!” said Kathy from Savannah. “The Pimento cheese is OK, but we love the egg salad sandwich”

“You can’t beat the food and drink prices!” said Carey from Augusta, very much. “It’s hard- the chicken sandwich had a lot of flavour in it”

‘My favourite is the egg salad sandwich and the Pimento cheese, too. But the egg salad sandwich is the best’ – said Miranda from North Carolina.

‘The peanuts! They’re $1.75. If you’re going to watch any other professional sport, you’re paying $20 for these peanuts’ – Tim from Washington said.

“My family like the BBQ sandwich, but I like the club sandwich” – said Josh from Iowa, before he committed blasphemy… “To me, the Pimento cheese is overrated!”

“The brand new tomato pie is the best. You have to try it” – said Joseph from Alabama.

“The Pimento cheese sandwich. But, the best thing you can do is combine this with the chicken, if you buy both sandwiches” – said Glen from Charlotte, exposing a life hack at the Masters.
