Who are this year’s Solheim Cup vice captains at Finca Cortesin?
Stacy Lewis and Suzann Pettersen will lead their respective teams in Andalucia, but who will be alongside them as vice captains?
There will be six vice captains at the Solheim Cup in Andalucia, with both Team Europe and Team USA having three each.
Suzann Pettersen and Stacy Lewis will be the opposing captains at Finca Cortesin in late September.
They both have previous experience of being vice captains. Pettersen was part of Catriona Matthew’s team in 2021, while Lewis has been in the role for both of the last two Solheim Cups.
Who will assist Suzann Pettersen for Team Europe?
Team Europe captain Suzann Pettersen has named three vice captains to assist her as Team Europe aim to win a historic third successive Solheim Cup.
Dame Laura Davies will be a part of the European Solheim Cup team for a record 15th appearance, and her third as a vice captain after holding the same role in both 2019 and 2021.
Davies is the competition’s record point scorer, with 25 points from 46 matches across her 12 appearances as a player. She helped Team Europe to four victories in that time, including in her last outing in 2011.
This will be the first time that Caroline Martens’ has featured at the Solheim Cup in any capacity. The Norwegian did not represent her continent as a player, but played on the LET for eight years.
This year, Anna Nordqvist will have the unique task of being a playing vice-captain. Suzann Pettersen selected her countrywoman to be a part of her backroom staff, with the Swede then securing her place in the team thanks to her Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Nordqvist will play at the Solheim Cup for the eighth time, having gained 15.5 points from her previous 27 matches in the competition. This will also be her first time as a vice captain for Team Europe.
Who will be Team USA’s vice captains in Andalucia?
Team USA captain Stacy Lewis has chosen her three vice captains, with only of those reprising the role from a previous Solheim Cup.
The only American vice captain with experience in the role is Angela Stanford. She helped Juli Inkster at the 2021 Solheim Cup, having played in six more editions of the biennial competition prior to that. Those included a run of five consecutive appearances, with three victories for Team USA.
Morgan Pressel will be a vice captain at the Solheim for the first time. The 2007 ANA Inspiration winner featured in six Solheim Cups as a player, including five consecutive appearances from 2007 to 2015. She scored 12.5 points from her 22 matches for Team USA.
Also making her vice captaincy debut in Andalucia will be Natalie Gulbis, and it will be her first appearance at the competition since she last played for Team USA in 2009. That was the last of three consecutive Solheim Cups for Gulbis, who took 5.5 points from 10 matches.

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.
