Golfers have never been so well off, especially men’s golfers. Here are the stars who earned the most cash on the course in 2025…

The PGA Tour depends on its sponsors and partners to put up purses for its events.

Despite recent changes in structure, in relation to the Signature Events, as well as several tournament sponsorship changes, the tour continues to provide eye-popping prize money.

And the best golfers in the world are in line to benefit, and hundreds of individuals are competing to be at the top of the leaderboard every week. The PGA Tour average in 2025, in terms of money earned, was a staggering $2,335,280, but who made up the top five?

Who are the richest golfers?

5 – J.J. Spaun $13,278,222

Spaun had his breakout season in 2025, highlighted by his remarkable US Open victory at Oakmont, where he drained a 64-footer on the 72nd hole to seal the win. In claiming the title, the American received the first-place prize of $4,300,000. His maiden major in June came after heartbreak earlier in the year, where Spaun lost to Rory McIlroy in a playoff at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass on a Monday finish.

The 35-year-old was defeated in another sudden-death ending at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, this time to Justin Rose. Spaun racked up a total of three runner-ups, including the two playoff defeats, but his perseverance was rewarded with a gutsy US Open win. The California man has been a regular on tour since 2017, yet has only one regular PGA victory to his name, the 2022 Valero Texas Open. But this season materialised into his career best as somewhat of a late bloomer.

4 – Russell Henley $14,707,570

Another PGA Tour veteran, 36-year-old Henley, turned pro in 2011 and has competed in over 300 tournaments. The Georgia Bulldog notched his fifth career victory in 2025, and perhaps the crown jewel of the quintet, at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. 12 years since his first win, Russell continues to compete amongst the world’s best even into the latter part of his 30s, ranking fifth in the OWGR and sixth on data golf.

The win at Arnie’s tournament was special for Henley, capped off with a clutch chip-in eagle on the 16th to outlast Collin Morikawa by one shot. Henley made the 2025 US Ryder Cup team, but did not perform up to his typical standards, ending with a winless record of 0-2-1, after qualifying second on points. However, with two seconds and ten 10 tens, Henley’s 2025 was more than admirable.

3 – Rory McIlroy $16,992,418

Money means little to the Northern Irishman, who has racked up over $100 million during the course of his illustrious career. But 2025 will undoubtedly go down as McIlroy’s blockbuster campaign, and perhaps one of the best in golfing history. Rory finally completed the grand slam at the Masters in April, after winning both the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am and the Players.

After winning the Irish Open, he then led Europe to a brilliant Ryder Cup victory on away soil on Long Island before rounding off 2025 with his seventh Race to Dubai title, surpassing the great Seve Ballesteros. In his mind, he has achieved all of his career goals, but it does not mean that he is not hungry to increase his major total of five in the years to come. Ostensibly, McIlroy has at least another decade of top-level golf, and we know that when he is on his game, no one can come close. With three tour wins this year and 29 in total, Rory is third on this list with over $15 million.

ALSO: What clubs does Tommy Fleetwood use?

2 – Tommy Fleetwood $18,496,238

Despite all of Rory’s excellence, 2025 was the year Tommy Fleetwood finally got over the line to win a PGA Tour event. It was none other than the Tour Championship at East Lake. Certainly, the elimination of starting strokes aided Tommy’s chances, but the Englishman deserved it all. The $10 million first-place prize was a tidy return for four days of elite golfing performance, and made up more than half of Fleetwood’s annual total. But the win on his résumé matters more than anything else. So many close calls, so many heartbreaks, will the floodgates now open for the long-haired 34-year-old?

1 – Scottie Scheffler $27,659,550

With nearly $30 million earned this year, Scheffler tops this list by a landslide, nearly making more than both Spaun and Henley combined. Scottie won 50% of the majors in 2025, the PGA Championship and the Open, doubling his career total. Now three-quarters of the way to the grand slam, all eyes will turn from McIlroy to Scheffler, as he looks to make light work of Rory’s 11-year major drought in search of the slam. The man from Texas has now been atop the World Rankings for over 150 weeks, a span of basically three years, crystallising his recent dominance of the sport.

Consistency was the key for Scheffler’s season, as he finished inside the top 25 in all 20 of his appearances. This included a ridiculous 17 top 10s, one runner-up and six wins, demonstrating his penchant for closing the door when in contention. Scheffler is on a run only comparable to Tiger Woods’ prime, and although he is not on the Cat’s level in terms of longevity and sustained superiority, he is inching closer every year that he reigns supreme as the sport’s best talent.
