He is one of the most popular players in the world of golf and the one we love to cheer for. Rory McIlroy has more eyes on him than ever before.
He took his PGA Tour trophy tally towards the 30-mark after winning the Wells Fargo Championship for the fourth time in 2024, and his DP World Tour total to 17 by winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic for the fourth time as well.
The Northern Irishman was still looking for that magic fifth major championship, which he had touched but not grasped in recent years. It seemed his destiny to win the Open Championship at St Andrews in 2022 and the US Open at Pinehurst in 2024, but neither was to be.
But at the 2025 Masters, he did it. He finally did it. At the expense of Justin Rose in a playoff at Augusta National, McIlroy completed the grand slam with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Rory McIlroy tee time today
McIlroy burst on to the major scene in 2011 when he won the US Open by a staggering eight shots from Jason Day. This came shortly after he blew up in the final round of the Masters where he fell out of contention immediately around the corner when it looked like he was going to win a Green Jacket at the start of his major career.
He won his second major title at Kiawah Island when he won the PGA Championship in a very dominant fashion, and he took his major tally to four in 2014 by winning this tournament again, plus The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
The eyes of golf fans are more fixated on the 35-year-old’s every move more than ever as he looks for more success at the top of the game, especially now that he can kick on to win more and more majors.

He is one of the few players who skips from the PGA Tour to the DP World Tour during his season, juggling his responsibility as one of the flag bearers of European golf and a strong supporter of the DP World Tour itself.
He started the 2025 PGA Tour season in perfect fashion by winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. McIlroy is looking to meticulously pick which events he will play this year with a reduced schedule, and his strategy already paid dividends in February. He came tied for 17th at the Genesis Invitational, so he only played twice heading into the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass – an event he won.
And then he won the Masters at the 17th attempt, and his 11th attempt at the grand slam. After performing valiantly at The Open at Portrush, McIlroy won the Irish Open at the K Club for the second time.
