Lee Westwood will be aiming to claim a fourth Indonesian Masters title when he tees up on the Asian Tour this week, but he’ll have competition from a debutant with whom he’s all too familiar.
Marking the latest father-son duo to both compete in the same tournament, Samuel Westwood will be looking to follow in his Dad’s footsteps as he makes his first professional start at Royale Jakarta.
Fans may recognise Samuel after he caddied for Lee in both the Masters and 2021 Ryder Cup, a cameo where he was described as being “as nervous as a kitten” by his father.
Now though, Westwood Jr is targeting success as a professional golfer in his own right, teeing up in the Asian Tour event alongside the likes of Ernie Els, Graeme McDowell, and Anibarn Lahiri after receiving a sponsor’s invitation.
While still only 21, Samuel remains relatively new to tournament golf, having only taken up the game seriously five years ago.
As for the his dad, now back with partner Helen Storey on the bag, Lee will be targeting a fourth title at the Indonesia Masters after winning the event in 2011, 2012, and 2015.
On top of that, the Englishman will be chasing some much needed Official World Golf Ranking points, having not been afforded any by LIV Golf after switching to the breakaway league in June.
With the International Series event offering OWGR points, a host LIV golfers will be teeing up at the Indonesia Masters including Westwood, McDowell, Lahiri, Bernd Wiesberger, Scott Vincent, Sadom Kaewkanjana, Sihwan Kim, and Phachara Khongwatmai.
