Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica have filed for divorce.
TMZ were the first to report the news, then it emerged McIlroy filed the petition on May 13 as per Palm Beach County records, one day after winning the Wells Fargo Championship for the fourth time.
The Irish Independent say that McIlroy’s team confirmed that a divorce has been filed.
McIlroy and Erica first met in 2012 when Erica was an employee of the PGA of America. They started dating in 2014 and they got married in April 2017. Their first child Poppy was born in 2020.
The four-time major champion is set to address the media at the PGA Championship at Valhalla on Wednesday.

McIlroy won for the 26th time on the PGA Tour last week at Quail Hollow and arrives at the second major championship of 2024 looking for his first major triumph since winning the same tournament at the same venue 10 years ago.
There was golf-related turbulence for McIlroy off the course in recent weeks, having been rejected from rejoining the PGA Tour Policy Board which he resigned from in November.
