Shed load after shed load of dollars are dished out each week to the stars of the game at the sport’s best venues, but at what physical expense?
Two-time PGA Champion Justin Thomas revealed how far he’s travelled while navigating the 2023 PGA Tour schedule – and the results were staggering.
The 30-year-old has played in 20 events this season, but his calendar year voyage started at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January.
Fast forward to the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina, where he agonisingly missed out on the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and Thomas racked up a staggering 40,181 miles.
“Wanted to track this (calendar) year of how many miles were travellers for golf… Safe to say it was a lot,” Thomas wrote in his Instagram story.
And he isn’t done yet. Thomas has entered the Fortinet Championship in September in California, while another journey to Europe for the Ryder Cup could be on the cards.
Throw in possible appearances in the autumn and his debut at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa in November, and Thomas could find himself re-calculating his 2023 travel log.
