Justin Thomas has revealed he and Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay are no longer a pair.
The two-time major champion announced that he “parted ways” with Mackay in a post on social media on Wednesday evening.
Mackay joined Thomas as his caddie in 2021 having caddied for Phil Mickelson for 25 years. He took up an on-course reporting role with Golf Channel in 2017 after splitting with Mickelson before taking the job with Thomas four years later.
“While incredibly difficult for me to say, Bones and I have parted ways. I’m going to be forever thankful for him joining me on the bag in 2021,” the American wrote in an online post.

“The things we’ve been able to accomplish together – the PGA Championship in 2022, the Presidents Cup, the Ryder Cups were all unforgettable experiences. His wisdom on and off the course has been a blessing during a tough stretch of my career and he was there every step of the way.
“I know there are great things coming for both of us down the road. I wish him the best of luck and will always count him and his family amongst my friends.”
Thomas won his second PGA Championship with Mackay at Southern Hills in 2022, but since then, his form has dipped so much that he didn’t qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs last season and he was at risk of not being chosen for the 2023 Ryder Cup.
Thomas represented America with Bones on his bag in 2021 and 2023. Bones brought an abundance of experience to Thomas’ bag, having helped Mickelson to five major titles and countless trophies on the PGA Tour.
Thomas didn’t say who would replace Mackay just yet.
This move has come in the week before the Masters, the first major championship of the year, and one week after Mickelson split with his caddie and brother Tim Mickelson.
