The John Deere Classic was back on the PGA Tour in its regular spot in the schedule, leading up to The Open Championship.

Not only was PGA Tour glory up for grabs but two places to qualify for golf’s oldest major as well. We are only one week away from the beginning of the end of the major season.

TPC Deere Run played host to several popular winners in recent years including Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman and Bryson DeChambeau.

Davis Thompson has now joined this role of honour by reaching the staggering mark of 28-under, four shots clear of Michael Thorbjornsen, amateur Luke Clanton and C.T Pan.

It was Thompson and C.T Pan who also took the two spots up for grabs to play at Royal Troon later this month.

The winner pocketed $1,440,000 which is a marginal increase from what Sepp Straka pocketed 12 months ago. The Austrian went on to finish in a tie for second at The Open at Royal Liverpool.
