Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg has revealed there is no body cam footage of Scottie Scheffler’s arrest.

Talking with local reporters, including the Louisville Courier Journal, on Saturday morning, he said: “The officer did not have body cam footage turned on during the incident.

“We will release footage that we have… to my knowledge, we have not yet discovered any video of the initial contact between Officer (Bryan) Gillis and Mr Scheffler.”

The World No. 1 was arrested, detained and booked in the early hours of Friday after trying to get into Valhalla ahead of his second round tee time at the PGA Championship.

Earlier, a fatal accident had seen John Mills killed following a collision with a shuttle bus, leading to traffic restrictions and delaying the start of play.

Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third degree mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. He is due to appear at the Kentucky Court of Justice at 9am Eastern Time on May 21.

Scottie Scheffler arrest: ‘I never intended to disregard any of the instructions’

In a statement via his instagram account, the 27-year-old said: “This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers.

“It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do.

“I never intended to disregard any of the instructions.”

A police report has stated that Officer Gillis stopped Scheffler’s car and “attempted to give instruction”.

It added: “Subject refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging Detective Gillis to the ground. Detective Gillis suffered pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knees.

“He was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment by emergency medical personnel. Detective Gillis’ uniform pants, valued at approximately $80 were damaged beyond repair.”

Mayor Greenberg also told reporters he was not certain whether Gillis was wearing a body camera but added there was footage from a fixed camera across the street from where the arrest took place. He said that would be released in the future.

“Right now, the case is in the hands of our county attorney, and I will let the legal process play out,” he said.
