How to watch the 2018 PGA Championship

This year's PGA Championship is not on TV – so how do you watch it? Find out here

The PGA Championship TV coverage caused quite a stir last year. First off everyone was upset because they had paid a lot of money for Sky Sports, which then lost the rights to the final major of 2017. Then the BBC stepped in to save the day for British golf fans, only to be then attacked for its coverage of the event – despite only having three weeks to prepare.

Well, it’s all set to change again this year as Eleven Sports will be streaming the final major of the season live with free access to their coverage by offering users a seven-day trial period.

So how do I watch the 2018 PGA Championship?

Eleven Sports will be showing all four days live on their website, mobile and tablet apps.

As well as this, they have teamed up with Facebook to offer free coverage on their Facebook page for the first two days of play.

Here are the times they will be streaming:

Thursday
1.30pm-7pm: Featured groups; Eleven Sports website, mobile and tablet apps, Facebook Live
7pm-close of play: Full coverage; Eleven Sports website, mobile and tablet apps, Facebook Live

Friday
4pm-7pm: Featured groups; Eleven Sports website, mobile and tablet apps, Facebook Live
7pm-close of play: Full coverage; Eleven Sports website, mobile and tablet apps, Facebook Live

Saturday
5pm-close of play: Full coverage; Eleven Sports website, mobile and tablet apps, Facebook Live

Sunday
5pm-close of play: Full coverage; Eleven Sports website, mobile and tablet apps, Facebook Live

And how do I sign up for Eleven Sports

Well, as of Tuesday evening there was no sign of the PGA Championship on the Eleven Sports website, just a photo of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric and a boast about having rights to Spanish and Italian football this season.

We understand the PGA Championship will be free to access, but you still have to punch in your credit card details to even get the free access, which will undoubtedly put a lot of people off.

If you do get past that stage, remember to cancel if you don’t wish to carry on your subscription – or you might find a few quid missing from your bank each month.

But can I watch it on my TV?

You can, if you have the right apparatus to do so. This will largely mean using an HDMI cable between your laptop and TV.

If you have a compatible Smart TV, you should be able to find the Eleven Sports app on that, or you can log into Facebook.

Otherwise it’s the small screen for you, unfortunately…

I’ve never heard of Eleven Sports before…

Eleven Sports, according to its website, is “a multinational group of sports television channels”. It is UK-based and owned by Andrea Radrizzani, who you might know as also being the majority shareholder in Leeds United Football Club – so it’s definitely reputable. (Stop laughing in the back.)

I have another question…

Please feel free to contact us via the comments below or on Twitter and we will strive to help in any way.

Matthew Beedle

National Club Golfer and National Club Golfer magazine

Matthew has been playing golf since he was around 13 and took up the game at a local nine-hole municipal course with his friends before joining Pontefract & District Golf Club just over the hedge.

Still a member of Pontefract with a handicap of 3, he currently sits on the board of directors to help with digital and marketing initiatives in order to improve membership and visitor income.

Matthew graduated university with a First Class in Sports Journalism from Leeds Trinity University and has been working in the golf industry since graduating.

NCG’s social media & marketing manager, Matthew’s main job role is to increase website traffic to the National Club Golfer website via our email and social media channels as well as driving entries to grow our NCG Top 100s Tour events amongst other tasks.

Not one to change his equipment too often, Matthew currently plays the TaylorMade M2 driver which has lasted the test of time in his bag. Elsewhere, you’ll find him using the TaylorMade Stealth 2 three-wood with a Ping G425 Crossover 2-iron to aid his long game.

Through his 4-iron to Gap Wedge, Matthew uses the Ping i500 irons accompanied by Ping’s Glide 3.0 56-degree and 60-degree wedges.

Another club that has stood the test of time in his bag is a Nike Method Core MC-3i putter which has had to have the SuperStroke grip changed at least three times. Ball of choice is the Titleist ProV1.
