‘It was crazy!’ Korn Ferry Tour pro makes history with a staggering 57

Move aside Jim Furyk and Stephen Jaeger, Cristobal Del Solar has now carded the lowest round in the history of PGA Tour-sanctioned events…

Cristobal Del Solar

Cristobal Del Solar didn’t even know the score he was on when completing the first round of the Astara Golf Championship.

After making what was a rare par on the 18th hole at Country Club de Bogotá-Pacos in Colombia, the Chilean signed for a staggering 57.

He became the first player ever to shoot 57 in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event and his score of 13-under-par levelled the lowest round-to-par ever recorded in PGA Tour-sanctioned history.

“It was crazy, honestly I didn’t even know what I shot. I knew I was playing, obviously, great – Everything just kept happening. Everything just clicked,” Del Solar said.

“The course was definitely set up to shoot a very low score. Now when you go into a course like this, you don’t think, ‘OK, I’m going to shoot 57.’ You just go out there like ‘OK, let’s do my best’ – you still got to do it.”

With just 28 Korn Ferry Tour appearances to his name and no wins, Del Solar took advantage of the short 6,254 yards, not to mention 9,000 feet of elevation, to storm into a convincing lead with a great chance of his maiden victory.

“I don’t know if I was nervous. I was anxious. I wanted to keep making more birdies,” he added.

The 30-year-old also blew Jim Furyk and Stephan Jaeger out of the water – two players to have respectively shot 58s on the PGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour.

Del Solar completed the front nine in just 27 shots with six birdies and an eagle on the par-4 9th hole in Bogota.

His back nine wasn’t played to quite the same standard. Nonetheless, three birdies and another eagle on the par-5 12th hole took him to 13-under and into a four-shot lead.

He has also stolen the thunder of his fellow countryman Joaquin Niemann who shot a 59 at LIV Golf Mayakoba last week on his way to winning his first LIV Golf trophy.

Del Solar will hope he can do the same.
