The US Women’s Open will feature 156 players from around the world, but how do these golfers qualify to play at Erin Hills?
Mao Saigo won the Chevron Championship, and she will be among the favourites to take the title in Wisconsin.
There are several ways in which players can qualify for the US Women’s Open. In total, there are more than 20 different criteria that golfers can meet to gain a spot in the field.
From winning on the senior tour to coming through one of several qualifying events, this tournament offers many routes to allow a wide variety of competitors a path to glory.
Here is how to qualify for the 2025 US Women’s Open…

Win the US Women’s Open in the last ten years
Any player to have won the US Women’s Open since 2015 receives an exemption into the 2025 edition of the tournament
Play well at the previous edition
The top 10 and ties at the 2024 US Women’s Open get into the next year’s event.
Win the US Senior Women’s Open
Last year’s winner of the US Senior Women’s Open will earn a spot to play at this year’s US Women’s Open.
Win the US Women’s Amateur
If you win the 2024 US Women’s Amateur, you get into the 2025 event.
Win the US Girls Junior and US Women’s Mid Amateur, and reach the US Women’s Amateur Final
If you win the US Girls Junior or the US Women’s Mid Amateur or even if you reach the US Women’s Amateur and lose, you still qualify for the US Open.

Win the Chevron Championship
Winners of the Chevron Championship from the previous five editions will receive an invite to play at the US Women’s Open.
Win the Women’s PGA Championship
Winners of the Women’s PGA Championship from the previous five years will receive an invite to play at the US Women’s Open.
Win the AIG Women’s Open
Winners of the AIG Women’s Open from the previous five years will receive an invite to play at the US Women’s Open.
Win the Amundi Evian Championship
Winners of the Amundi Evian Championship from the previous three years will receive an invite to play at the US Women’s Open.
Finish in the top 30 on the Race to CME Globe
Those golfers that finish the previous season in the top 30 on the LPGA Tour’s season long Race to CME Globe will receive an invite to the US Women’s Open.
Win an LPGA Tour event
Players who have won an individual event on the LPGA Tour since the last US Women’s Open receive an invitation to the US Women’s Open.
Win the Augusta National Women’s Amateur
The winner of the most recent edition of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur will earn their place at this year’s US Women’s Open.
Win the Mark H. McCormack Medal
The winner of the Mark H. McCormack Medal – given annually to the player at the summit of the World Amateur Golf Rankings – will receive an invitation to play in the US Women’s Open.
Win the NCAA Division I Individual Championship
The winner of the highest individual accolade in collegiate golf will earn their place in the US Women’s Open.
Be in the top 10 this year
Those that are inside the top 10 on this year’s Race to CME Globe up to the designated cut-off point will also receive an invite to play in the US Women’s Open.
Be ranked in the top 75 – Part 1
Those players (not already exempt) that are ranked inside the top 75 on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings at the first cut-off point receive an invite to the US Women’s Open.
Be ranked in the top 75 – Part 2
Those players (not already exempt) that are ranked inside the top 75 on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings at the second cut-off receive an invite to the US Women’s Open.
Play your way in
Players make the field for the 2025 US Women’s Open through 36-hole qualifying events, of which 23 took place around the world.
Know the right people…
There are a number of sponsors and tournament exemptions, as well as special exemptions, with players not already in the field receiving invites for the US Women’s Open.
