The ‘One of Us’ klaxon was out during the first round of the US Women’s Open.
But shockingly, it was World No.1 Nelly Korda who suffered from a catastrophic sequence of events on the 12th hole at Lancaster Country Club.
In pursuit of her third major title and her second of the season, Korda made a 10 on the par 3, her third hole of the day having started on the 10th hole.
Below there is a clip you can watch of the score that sent Korda plummeting down the leaderboard. She is at risk of missing the cut for the first time since last year’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

The American hit her first shot on this downhill, 181-yard hole long of the green and into a bunker, which wasn’t a huge error to begin with. But her bunker shot rolled through the green and into the stream at the front of the putting surface.
Her next two balls went to the bottom of the water as well. Korda signed for a double-digit score, seven-over for one hole and a truly uncharacteristic performance for a player with six victories in her last seven events on the LPGA Tour.
Korda has built a body of work in 2024 comparable to the greats of the game. She became the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to win six times in one season at the Mizuho Americas Open and she is the first American to do this since Beth Daniel in 1990.

She was also just the eighth player since 1980 to win six or more times in a year and she also tied Annika Sorenstam as the fastest player to win six titles since 1980. As we say, not bad company.

Her best finish at the US Women’s Open was a tie for eighth in 2022. She might now face an uphill battle to play at the weekend in Pennsylvania.
