Don’t worry, the Masters might feel a while away, but you know it’ll come fast.

No matter where you stand on the ‘Which is the best major’ debate, Augusta National is the perfect place to get the major season underway.

Again, 2025 is another year when Rory McIlroy could complete the major grand slam, but Scottie Scheffler could also stamp his authority on the sport again in Georgia.

Will a LIV Golfer win a major this coming season? Brooks Koepka won the 2023 PGA Championship and Bryson DeChambeau won the 2024 US Open, so there’s every chance. Will it be Jon Rahm or Cameron Smith?

Dustin Johnson won the US Open when it was last played at Oakmont which will host the 2025 event, and then we have the most mouthwatering venue on the Open Rota coming up: Royal Portrush.

Destiny awaits McIlroy once more. So without further delay, let’s see who will win the 2025 golf majors according to the NCG team.

Masters – Augusta National

Dan Murphy: It’s impossible to see past Scottie Scheffler here, as unexciting as that is likely to be.

Steve Carroll: Who can stop the World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in early season? He took his second green jacket last year without ever looking exceptional but he just knows how to play this course. His record is 19th, 18th, 1st, 10th and 1st. It’s a pretty boring choice but until someone can cope with his aura at Augusta National I’m going to keep picking him.

Matt Chivers: There’s been a couple of LIV players to win majors so far. I think Jon Rahm is nowhere near done at the Masters. He’d be my pick.

Paul Miller: Scottie Scheffler

Matt Coles: All the talk at Augusta will be as to whether Rory McIlroy can finally finish off the Grand Slam. He won’t but that is what the talk will be. I think it might be another former winner that takes the spoils, with Jon Rahm taking another major victory for the LIV Golf League.

Holly Rowntree: Unsurprising and predictable choice for this one. Scottie Scheffler’s current form and being World No.1 it is hard to say anyone else could take off with the coveted green jacket, however, Ludvig Aberg has shown remarkable potential, with a runner-up finish in the 2024 Masters.

I would like to think from his performance last year and his consistent stint in the top 10, that Aberg could be in with a chance to claim this major championship.

Max McVittie: Xander Schauffele will conquer Augusta National. Following a hugely impressive year in 2024, topped only by Scottie Scheffler, the American will add a third major to his collection. Once regarded as a player who could leap the echelons of the game, is now a name firmly in that bracket. Although he has yet to add a green jacket to his wardrobe, Schauffele has challenged on numerous occasions, most notably finishing second to Tiger Woods in 2019. With four top 10s in his last six appearances, 2025 will see Schauffele go that one step further.

Mike Robertson: Rory McIlroy. (This is all I want for Christmas).

PGA Championship – Quail Hollow

Dan Murphy: Quail Hollow is very much a horses-for-courses kind of venue. It must be said that Rory loves it here. JT won his first PGA here back in 2017. I’ll go for Ludvig Aberg to begin his major collection.

Steve Carroll: Rory McIlroy celebrated his fourth victory at Quail Hollow when winning last year’s Wells Fargo Championship and the Northern Irishman really is a horses-for-course kind of guy. Just look at his record in Dubai. Can he just relax and let it happen? The Masters just feels too much of a head-wrench now, but if he can put it all together on a final day the long drought could end here.

Matt Chivers: Given the venue, this is essentially another PGA Tour event and we all know who wins them most frequently. I’ll have Scottie Scheffler, please.

Paul Miller: Scottie Scheffler

Matt Coles: Finally, the PGA Championship, and a venue that several people in the field have loved over the years. One of those is Rory – a four-time winner of the Wells Fargo Championship. However, I think that Max Homa takes his first major championship at the PGA this year. He won the Wells Fargo in 2019 and in 2022. Another three years on, can history repeat itself?

Holly Rowntree: With four previous wins at Quail Hollow, Rory McIlroy seems to enjoy this course and plays well. I think this is prime time for Rory’s comeback, you can tell he wants it, I mean who doesn’t, but with his track record and the way he has been playing, I think this could be the one for Rory.

Max McVittie: Rory McIlroy is a master of Quail Hollow. The Northern Irishman has won four times there, with his most recent victory coming earlier this year after securing a five-stroke victory over Xander Schauffele. A final round of 64 shows what McIlroy is capable of on a Sunday around Quail Hollow and if he’s able to produce something close to that at the PGA Championship, he’s sure to be in with a chance.

Mike Robertson: Max Homa

ALSO: US Open: Everything you need to know

US Open – Oakmont

Dan Murphy: Surely it is time for Rahm to get back to his best. He loves the US Open.

Steve Carroll: Probably the toughest of the four to pick, but Oakmont is a brute with bunkers everywhere and a near 300-yard par 3. I want a player who can go long but hit very accurate irons at the same time and so I’m plumping for Collin Morikawa to win his third major title in Pennsylvania.

Matt Chivers: I will go with Brooks Koepka. He lives for these tournaments and he played well last time at Oakmont.

Paul Miller: Scottie Scheffler

Matt Coles: It sounds like the obvious choice, but I can’t see past Scottie winning another major in 2025. However, I think that he might take the spoils at the US Open to add to his two Masters victories.

Holly Rowntree: Hovering around just under that top 10 in 2024, I would love to see Sahith Theegala take charge this year and claim victory at the US Open. A rising star with a dynamic game, Theegala’s recent performances show he could make a significant impact at Oakmont.

Max McVittie: In truth I could have picked any or even all of the majors to be won by Scottie Scheffler. It’s a matter of when, not if he’ll complete the slam. He looks imperious when major week rolls around, not even being arrested seems to be able to stop the World No.1. A dominant 2024 will be followed up with a win at Oakmont to claim his first national open title.

Mike Robertson: Scottie Scheffler

ALSO: The Open Rota: Where will the Open Championship be held in 2025, 2026 and 2027?

The Open – Royal Portrush

Dan Murphy: I remain convinced that Sergio Garcia has an Open in him so let’s hope it’s at Royal Portrush.

Steve Carroll: A funny thing happened the last time Rory McIlroy was winning majors. He won another in very short order – The Open at Hoylake followed by the PGA at Valhalla in 2014. Last time out at Portrush was a disaster, he never recovered from hitting it beyond the dreadful internal out-of-bounds on the 1st. But he also shot 65 in the second round and, as a junior, swept round in 61 in the North of Ireland Championship. If he wins at Quail Hollow, he wins here too.

Matt Chivers: A romantic shout perhaps, but like Dan, I think Justin Rose is destined for a Claret Jug. Does he have the gears to make the birdies on the back nine on Sunday? I’ll chance him.

Paul Miller: Scottie Scheffler

Matt Coles: The last major of the year will be the Open Championship, once more, and it returns to Portrush. Tommy Fleetwood finished 2nd to Shane Lowry when the Open was last held in Northern Ireland, and I feel like this could be the Englishman’s time to finally break that major drought.

Holly Rowntree: Tommy Fleetwood has a strong record in links golf and earlier runner-up finish at Royal Portrush, I think this could be the year that we see Tommy win his first major event.

Max McVittie: With a Portrush native on the bag, I’m going with Brooks Koepka to take his Open Championship. Kopeka was the only one of the LIV Golf contingent to make the cut at every major championship in 2024. Granted his highest finishes were a tie for 26th at the PGA Championship and US Open but he was a constant challenger on LIV across the season.

His caddie is no stranger to next year’s Open venue, Royal Portrush, having self-confessed to having played over 1,000 rounds at one of the great links courses. A tie for fourth in 2019 was the American’s best finish at the Open to date and will go on to lift the Claret Jug this time around.
