Finca Cortesin | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

As host to the 2023 Solheim Cup, Finca Cortesin was  thrust onto the golfing world map, and what an amazing  resort it is. One of the leading Spanish resorts, it sits on the glorious Andalucian coast, a stone's throw from the Mediterranean Sea.

The golf course played host to the Solheim Cup and 24 of the world’s best female golfers in September 2023, with the European team retaining the trophy after a 14-14 draw. It was the first time that the tournament had ever finished with a draw, and home favourite Carlota Ciganda was a key component for Team Europe. With the best of the best playing, Finca Cortesin was showcased to the world.

Cabell Robinson, the world-renowned golf course architect, was the brainchild of the championship course. The 18-hole lay-out measures more than 7,000 yards, and has incredible views of the Estepona Mountains. There is also a Jack Nicklaus Academy with extensive practice facilities and tuition from PGA-qualified professionals.

Finca Cortesin is also home to an Oriental-inspired spa, providing a tranquil escape. The spa has individual treatment rooms for facial and body treatments, as well as a fitness centre and indoor heated salt-water swimming pool.

Solheim Cup Host

Finca Cortesin was already well known before being awarded the Solheim Cup but the sport’s premiere women’s match play event brought the Spanish resort to the forefront of the golfing world.

The golf course, which begins with a risk-reward par-4, provided some incredible moments throughout the  weekend, as home favourite Carlota Ciganda helped Team Europe retain the trophy.

The course is one of Europe’s longest layouts, measuring over 7,000 yards from the tips, and is also one of Cabell Robinson’s finest designs. With views of the Estepona Mountains as you stroll up and down over the hills, each hole provides a different , memorable challenge.

Nicklaus Academy

As one of several venues around the world, the Nicklaus Academy has a home at Finca Cortesin. Led by 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus, revolutionary methods are put into practice to help golfers of all levels.

The coaching studio at the Nicklaus Academy provides swing analysis thanks to some high-tech equipment. Swing Catalyst Video Analysis, Swing Catalyst Balance Plate, K-Coach, Foresight CGQuad, Foresight Essential Skills and FSX 2018 are all used to help keep golf fun, and to help you improve your swing and your game.

Private lessons can give you one-to-one tuition and instruction while using all of the aforementioned technology. The Nicklaus Academy also provides on-course lessons to help with your course management, and to teach what shots to play from different positions. The academy also offers clinics and club fitting.

5-Star Hotel

Opened in 2008, Finca Cortesin is home to a 5-star hotel that frequently appears on world's best lists. Built around two courtyards, the hotel has 67 spacious and exquisitely designed suites plus there are private villas available for rental.

The Junior Suite is the entry-level offering at Finca Cortesin, at more than 50 square metres it's spacious and airy. The bathrooms are finished in marble with a bathtub and separate walk-in shower. Each suite has a private patio or terrace.

There are then Executive, Garden, Family (inter-connecting rooms) and Pool Suites and the most luxurious of all, the Cortesin Suites. The Cortesins are the best of the best, featuring two king-sized beds, the same marble touch in the bathroom, and four-metre high ceilings.

Away from the hotel, there are also two private residences that can be rented out as well. The Villa, La Reserva offers a stunning four-bedroom accommodation that sleeps up to eight people. A new project has been introduced at Finca Cortesin, with 16 stunning private residences to be built. These will all have five bedrooms and sleep up to ten people.

The Oriental Spa

The spa at Finca Cortesin is designed with an Oriental infusion, providing with treatments based on Asian traditions and techniques.

There are also thermal baths and a snow cave, along with a heated salt-water swimming pool. There are ten treatment rooms, and a double suite for couple’s treatments.

Finca Cortesin is located in the southern part of Spain, in the region of Casares Del Sol. The region of Marbella is about 30 minutes up the road, while the border with Gibraltar is approximately 25 miles to the south.

What is the nearest airport to Finca Cortesin?
As is the case for La Reserva Club de Sotogrande, the nearest international airport to Finca Cortesin is not in the same country. Instead, Gibraltar International Airport is the nearest, around 45 minutes from the resort. The nearest major airport on Spanish soil is Malaga Airport, which sits an hour away to the north east.
