Odyssey Toulon putters

All the Gear: Odyssey Toulon putters finally available

High-end putters as used by Thomas Pieters are coming to the UK. Equipment editor James Savage takes a look and rounds up the rest of the gear news...

We’ve been a bit inundated with new iron launches over the past couple of weeks so let’s take a look at what else might be popping up in your pro shop.

But if you missed our Titleist 718 and TaylorMade P790/730 coverage please give it a watch.

Odyssey Toulon putters

We’ve seen the Odyssey Toulon putters out and about on tour in the hands of the likes of Thomas Pieters but they were tricky to get hold of for UK consumers.

But now these premium flat sticks will be available – with extensive Tour-level fitting options – from a select number of Callaway retailers across the European region.

So what’s the story with the Toulon range and what’s the Odyssey link?

Well the Toulon brand was created by former TaylorMade executive Sean Toulon but then bought by Callaway last year.

Toulon was named as new general manager of Odyssey Golf and a senior vice president at Callaway Golf.

The putters are crafted and designed differently to other Odyssey putters namely through the use of premium materials.

They give Odyssey some presence in the high-end putter on the market – largely dominated by Scotty Cameron with PXG growing in popularity among those with a few quid to spare.

Toulon putters are all made from solid blocks of 303 stainless steel and feature a deep diamond mill face design with cross-hatch grooves to better control roll, sound and feel.

The 2017 line includes seven models – five blades (Madison, Austin, Columbus, Long Island and San Diego) and two face-balanced mallets (Memphis and Indianapolis).

More information can be found on the Odyssey website.

Galvin Green part two collection unveiled

Swedish brand Galvin Green have launched the second phase of their 2017 collection with 37 new lines across five different layers and in six new colour choices.

Galvin pretty much invented colourful waterproofs and their latest offering sees a new black and bright yellow combination.

As expected these new jackets, windstoppers, shirts and trousers are loaded with technology.

They include Gore-Tex stretch waterproof jackets with C-Knit backer for comfort and breathability.

There’s thermal regulation with their Insula pullovers with padded inserts and more breathability from their Ventil8 shirts.

And for those chilly morning rounds there are new skintight thermal base layers with bold print on shoulders and sleeves.

More information can be found on the Galvin Green website.

Sun Mountain launch ‘Sunday’ golf bag

What’s a Sunday golf bag? I hear you ask.

I think the idea behind this new lightweight offering from Sun Mountain is that it’s for popping out to get a few cheeky holes in without charging up the electric trolley and hauling the tour bag out of the garage.

Who doesn’t need one of these?

It features retractable ‘stubby legs’ and waterproof fabric with water-resistant zips and taped seams.

The H2NO Sunday bag also also incorporates a 3-way padded divider, one full length and another half-length pocket, a rain hood, adjustable padded carry strap and hip pad plus an umbrella holder and rubber carry handle.
