Meet the NCG team
Get to know the NCG team a bit better
Who are we and what do we do? Meet the NCG team…
Steve Carroll
Handicap: 11
Clubs: York, Close House
NCG’s man in the clubhouse. No one covers the grassroots game as comprehensively as Steve.
Steve has more than 20 years’ experience as a journalist and joined NCG from the York Press in 2016.
Away from golf he supports Middlesbrough and is a keen follower of horse racing.
Fun fact: When at Sandburn Hall, Steve snap-hooked his captain’s drive on his inauguration in 2017. It travelled 97 yards – believed to be the shortest in the club’s history.
Hannah Holden
Handicap: +3
Club: Huddersfield
The owner of the most delicious swing in the golf media industry, Hannah spends her days talking into a camera about equipment to help you make an informed decision on your next purchase.
Hannah, who joined NCG in 2019 after briefly flirting with a career in architecture, plays for Yorkshire Ladies and is the manager of the England Golf Yorkshire Girls Under-18 squad.
Away from golf, Hannah likes cuddling her dog, exercising, and cooking. (Not at the same time.)
Fun fact: Hannah averages at least six competitive rounds a week between April and October and hasn’t missed a fairway since 2016.
Matt Chivers
Handicap: 5
Club: Royal Cinque Ports
Dover-born and bred, Matt is a 5 handicap at Royal Cinque Ports and spent many years caddying at Royal St George’s before moving north to study history at the University of Liverpool.
He is NCG’s man for tour news, interviews and features.
Away from golf, Matt is an avid Arsenal fan and horse racing enthusiast. He is also keen to point out his surname is pronounced Chiv-ers, not Chive-ers.
Fun fact: Matt once topped the Sky Super Six leaderboard in the UK, but didn’t win a penny after losing in a tiebreaker. He doesn’t think about it every day.
Matt Coles
Handicap: 8.5
Club: Howley Hall
Working out your next golf day or trip? Check out Matt’s work on the NCG Top 100s website.
Matt has always been into sports, and particularly golf, from a young age. Originally from Warrington, Matt is now based in Leeds via a stint in Preston at the University of Central Lancashire. He is a new member of the single-figure handicap group,
Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
Fun fact: He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.
