Callaway Mavrik fairway woods review
Callaway Mavrik fairway woods: First Impressions
Visually this sits great behind the ball. It is very classic in looks with simple orange styling details on the crown.
Callaway Mavrik fairway woods: The Technology
For the first time in fairway woods Artificial intelligence is used to design a unique face for each model. The Flash Face SS20 is is forged and features jailbreak and face cup technology for maximum ball speed.
The range includes progressive leading-edge geometry so the front edge of the club is optimised for the golfer using each model. The Max model has a lowered leading edge for better performance on low face strikes whereas the Pro model has a tighter leading edge to help with workability.
Interchangeable weighting means launch, spin and shot shape can be optimised for each golfer.
Callaway Mavrik fairway woods: NCG Verdict
Ok – let’s get straight to the point – this club is seriously fast.
My average carry distance with the Epic Flash was 201 yards, I am getting 216 yards average carry with the Mavrik. That’s a gain of 15 yards – yes, 15 yards!
I saw a slight increase in clubhead speed with the Mavrik compared to last seasons Epic Flash. However when hit with the same clubhead speed as the Epic Flash, I gained 3mph of ball speed, leading to an extra 9 yards of carry distance. I think that is testament to the success of the new AI designed clubface.
