Callaway Mavrik driver

Callaway Mavrik driver review

Artifical Intelligence is back and more advanced than ever before. But did it help the performance of the Callaway Mavrik drivers?

Callaway Mavrik drivers: First Impressions

Instantly the reshaping on the sole of the Mavrik stands out. The ‘cyclone’ shape as Callaway are calling it is pretty drastically different to what we have seen in recent years. Also I personally think the orange colour scheme is much improved on last years green and yellow offering.

Callaway Mavrik drivers: The Technology

Artificial intelligence is used to design a unique face for each driver. The complexity of each face design required a new stronger material, FS2S titanium which is also 6grams lighter than traditional materials. AI has also been used to design an internal titanium rib system for improved acoustics creating a deeper sound.

Clubhead reshaping is used across the range to reduce drag and increase clubhead speed. Most noticeable in the standard Mavrik model with the new cyclone shape featuring a Hugh trailing edge, and flatter crown.

Callaway Mavrik drivers: NCG Verdict

All three models in this range vary quite drastically in shaping over the ball. The standard and sub zero models suited my eye the most due to being more compact. The standard Mavrik driver features the most extreme reshaping so it is perhaps no surprise this is the model I gained most clubhead speed and distance with.

I actually felt the performance was really consistent across this range and I had really great control of my ball flight with all models. The Sub Zero did ultimately fly lower with less spin which suited my game best. I think with the ball speed and accuracy this club was providing it is a serious contender to get in my bag for the 2020 season.
