Callaway Apex hybrid vs. Big Bertha hybrid: First impressions
Two very different models here.
The Apex is much more ‘old school’ in appearance and has more of an iron-like profile.
The Big Bertha is much larger and has more of a mini fairway wood feel.

Both have incorporated Callaway’s Jailbreak technology which connects the crown and the sole to allow the face to take more of the load at impact.
It’s been a real success story for Callaway, adding extra ball speed, stiffening up the club and allowing it to flex a bit more to offer a bit more speed.
The main difference between the clubs is when you start hitting out on the course and set them down behind the ball is the profile.
The Apex looks sleeker, more like an old ‘schoo’l hybrid and is more iron-like. The Big Bertha is oversized and a very friendly, confidence inspiring club.

I would think that I would normally lean more towards the Big Bertha because it’s larger, friendly, forgiving and easy to use.
But, to me, the Apex is a lot easier to hit in my mind, because of it’s profile. I feel like I can just hit it more like an iron.
The launch monitor numbers between the two were actually very similar.
I hit them both around 190-yards and I’m not too surprised by that because the style of the Big Bertha has that explosive feel off the face and that’s why despite having more loft, it’s still going the same difference.
