Ping have released a new forged iron set

The original Anser irons, launched two years ago, were Ping’s first ever forged product.

They were designed predominantly for the Asian market, where cast clubs are simply not valued as highly and price is less of an issue than elsewhere.

Yet Ping were surprised by the demand in both the US and Europe, so the second version has been given greater prominence globally.

At £160 a club, it is fair to assume that they will not be best-seller though.
The Ansers boast a multi-material forged construction involving a tungsten weight welded to the 8620 steel.

The tungsten weight, allied to a hollow sole, allows the centre of gravity to be lowered and makes the Ansers launch the ball higher.

With a progressive set design, the long irons are easier to hit than their predecessors. Blades they are not – in fact these irons are more forgiving than the i20s.

The standard shafts are Project X and Ping’s TFC800I graphite shaft.
