Takomo is relatively new to the world of golf. Founded in 2021, these are the second launch of irons by the brand who have waited three years since the previous sets. With lots of consumer feedback, Takomo are hitting the ground running in 2026 with three new sets of irons. In this review we put the Takomo 101 MKII Irons to the test…
The Takomo 101 MKII are a great looking set of irons. Designed for mid to high handicap golfers, the 101 Mk11 irons are the game improvement irons out of the trio released for 2026.
It’s really nice to see that Takomo really listened to their consumers with these irons. Not only in terms of technology but in what they want from a set of irons. The previous model set came as 4i to PW but as a game improvement set a 4iron wasn’t really needed.
For just over £500, these are a great set of irons!

Out of the box, wow these look good!
I’ve never tried Takomo irons but I’m excited to having seen them. There are three new models for 2026 but next to each other the soles don’t have an awful lot of variation when it comes to thickness.
The topline is technically thick, but the rear portion has been shaved away, meaning that when the club is set behind the ball it appears far thinner than it really is.
Overall, the whole appearance of the club that looks much closer to a traditional tour iron, while still offering the benefits of a larger, more forgiving head.
Starting with the technology, the Takomo 101 MKII irons adopt a hollow-body design, aimed at creating both distance and forgiveness. Constructed from 431 stainless steel the body is made to be flexible and durable. The face features variable- thickness 17-4 stainless steel. This is designed to make it more explosive, creating a buttery type feel at impact.
The variable thickness’s across the face aim to support forgiveness on off-centre strikes. How does this help? Well, by thinning out the face in areas such as the heel and toe, it allows bad strikes to behave more like good ones.
I tested these irons during a round at my golf club as well as at in indoor studio to collect data, using a Skytrak launch monitor and my usual Titleist ProV1x ball. Starting at the bottom end of the bag, the 101 MKII irons are the only model released by Takomo in 2026 that features a gap wedge. I really liked how this sat behind the ball. It’s got a pretty large head that looks like you can’t miss the face, which is the whole point.

In terms of data the gap wedge was VERY consistent! It flew at a nice height and produced a solid distance for a gap wedge. Out on the course, it was lovely to chip with around the greens.
Moving through the bag, the 7 iron also sat nicely behind the ball. For a ‘game improvement’ iron, the topline wasn’t too thick. These irons have shafts 25gram heavier than mine so speed was a little down and so was distance but that didn’t stop the consistency and feel that came off the face. The data was very tightly knit which is great. These are the strongest lofted irons out of the three sets for 2026 and so did come out the furthest- the 7 iron is 29°, vs 33° on the others.
The 101 MKII irons set goes up to a 5 iron. I’m a player who has a love hate relationship with 5 irons, they can look a little flat faced and hard to hit at times. I found this one to have a little more forgiveness with that thicker topline. The spin rates were quite low compared to what you’d expect to see with a 5 iron but that’s also partially to do with the club make up not 100% matching my game.

The addition of the gap wedge works great as it lets these irons gap more appropriately with the wedges.

I really enjoyed using these irons. The only thing I would say is that for a higher handicap golfer or as a beginner you may appreciate a little more sole on the clubs as there’s not a lot of size variation between the models.
We can’t forget to mention the amazing price. A full set of irons for just over £500, is unreal! Just be sure you know what shafts and grip size suit you best.
