First impressions
I really like the design of this mid-layer. It’s very casual and stylish. The block colours with the white zip work really well with a sign Puma logo on the bottom hem. In the UK Puma has released this in two different colours Navy Blazer and Festival Fuchsia.
On course testing
The Puma Gamer mid-layer is a great quarter-zip option for out on the course. It’s lightweight and offers a great range of movement thanks to its stretchy fabric. It’s also easy to store and folds down with minimal creasing after being in a bag.
I found the Gamer 1/4 zip to be both lightweight and stretchy, and the polyester and elastane blended fabric uses moisture-wicking properties that help keep you dry and comfortable. With such elasticity, it works great with a baselayer underneath and a gilet over the top.
Having already owned one of these mid-layers and worn it towards the back end of the summer I was aware that it doesn’t provide the full level of warmth you would need in winter on it’s own. This needs to be used as part of a layering system to keep you warm on the coldest days. If however, you’re looking for a little extra warmth on those summer evenings this is 100% the right pullover.
The Puma Gamer Quarter-Zip is true to size. I wore a medium being a UK size 12 top and 5ft 8. I loved that it was long enough on both the sleeves and the body. The cuffs of the arms also had thumb holes which are also great for stopping the sleeves from riding up.
The 19th hole
Like many quarter-zips, this one is very easy to wear and can be worn in so many different places. The casual polyester fabric means it doesn’t scream golf attire, with no large golf branding either so I would happily wear this both on and off the golf course.
My only criticism is the lack of colourways on Puma’s UK website but asides from that this is a great piece of clothing.
