Ping AW19 Men’s Performance Apparel Collection

Complete your winter look with Ping’s new Primaloft range

We checked out the new Ping AW19 men’s performance apparel collection, find out how we got on with the new norse primaloft vest

Ping winter apparel 2019: So what’s new?

Ping’s new autumn-winter men’s apparel line features the brand’s sensor technology platform and Primaloft gold insulation with cross core technology.

The new collection, they say, combines a fresh and contemporary winter palette with premium performance fabrics and unwavering attention to detail.

The Norse Primaloft vest pushes the limits of lightweight warmth by utilising the latest in performance insulation technology. Primaloft gold insulation with crosscore technology is a revolutionary fusion of Primaloft microfibres with Aerogel that delivers previously unattainable levels of warmth.

Aerogel, acclaimed for its ultra-lightweight and insulative properties, it was originally developed by NASA for use in aeronautical applications. It is composed of more than 95% air and is the lightest solid material known to man, forming a temperature barrier that delivers a higher warmth to weight ratio than any garment Ping has ever engineered.

The vest is also water-resistant and has reversible functionality. A chevron quilted black fabric is featured to the outer and, when reversed, offers the golfer a clean snorkel blue colourway. The jacket can be packed into its pocket for convenience and so it doesn’t take up too much space in your bag.

The Sensor Dry 2.5 jacket and waterproof trousers, I’m told, are Ping’s most advanced waterproof suit to date, a lightweight and breathable water and windproof outfit with stretch fabric ensure no distractions during the round, whatever the weather.

The new Norse Primaloft and Norse Primaloft Zoned jackets are made from primaloft silver active insulation. This is a lightweight, breathable, insulation technology, with permanent water-resistance providing comfort and enhanced performance for golfers.

The new breaker jacket and breaker vest have an insulated quilted front panel. The back body of the jacket is brushed back stretch fleece for warmth and water-resistant properties.

Ping winter apparel 2019: NCG verdict

My colleague Alex Perry tried the Norse Primaloft vest and the Norse Primaloft jacket. Here’s what he had to say…

“I’ll start with the vest, because I’m a big fan of a gilet – I just love the combination of the body warmth coupled with the freedom of my arms.

“On first look, I’m not a massive fan of snazzy colours in golf apparel so these are right up my street. The vest is reversible, black on one side and what Ping are calling “snorkel blue” on the other. So that’s a nice touch.

“The main thing for me when it comes to golf outerwear outside of the summer months is making sure it’s not too restrictive, so this is right up my street. On the day I tried it out it was about 10-12° and the vest over a polo shirt was perfect. And when the sun did come out later in the round, it tucked away neatly in my bag with minimal fuss.

“As for the jacket, I also tried this in “snorkel blue” and it really is quite striking. Again, comfort is not a problem and there are really no restrictions in the swing which is a massive plus point.

“I’ve had other jackets which have left me sweating after a couple of holes, even when it’s cold, so the technology in the new Primaloft range is not only welcome but impressive.

“The only downpoint for me, and it is a very small factor, is they don’t seem to be fitted for a slimmer person like myself – that’s not a boast, just a fact (and a bit of a boast – and they do billow a bit around the midriff, but it’s not noticeable enough to put me off wearing them.

“Otherwise looks-wise they are classic with a modern twist which will cater for all golfers.

“Two thumbs up from me.”
