The Farah Parka Showerproof Jacket is an extremely lightweight yet robust take on the classic cold-weather parker jacket. So how does it perform on the course? Let’s take a look…
Farah Parka Showerproof jacket review: NCG Summary
Both warm and comfortable to wear, Farah have constructed a not quite waterproof, but showerproof jacket which performed best during the long game.
It’ll even make short work of any aggressive crosswinds, which can be off putting at this time of the season
- Smart fit
- Great camo pattern
- Light yet robust build
- Half-zip functionality might not be to everyone’s taste
- Not fully waterproof
Farah Parka showerproof jacket review: First impressions
Today we are assessing the showerproof jacket from Farah’s latest Autumn Winter collection. The best parka jackets need to fit well, allow freedom of movement and most importantly be showerproof! Additional features, including adjustability and pockets, are also a consideration when selecting your ideal jacket.
This parker-style jacket is available in two colours, blue and black both with a camo pattern. I tested the blue version as I prefer adding some colour to my cold-weather clothing wardrobe instead of matching the usually dull weather at this time of the year!
The jacket feels delicate to the touch, but the 100% polyester shell proves to be the winner here for tight-fitting apparel fans like myself. I also like the half-zip functionality as it means you can slip in and out of it easily.
Farah Parka showerproof jacket review: On The Course
I’m about 178 cm tall and weigh 63 kg with a slender shape, so sizes are a key factor when reviewing products for me. Farah have really impressed me with the size point of this jacket. I take a small in any kind of top or jacket, and I instantly know if the size of a piece of clothing is right for me. It was snug enough to keep me warm but not too snug to prevent my freedom of movement – especially during my golf swing.
When it comes to wind, I played at JCB Golf Club the first time I tested the jacket, and safe to say, the jacket cruised through the volatile overhead conditions with more to spare. When I use waterproof jackets I’m used to having to wear a snood and woolly hat to keep the cold away, but with this that wasn’t necessary. I can see why it’s advertised as fully windproof!
My one criticism of the performance of the jacket would be the fact it isn’t 100% waterproof. As a showerproof jacket, you can expect it to be able to cope with light showers absolutely fine, but when it comes to a downpour in England, it usually batters it down, which could be a problem.
When I took the jacket out for a second time at Rudding Park, halfway round there was a light shower, which is coped well with and was fully dry after about 30 minutes. However, toward the end of my round, it rained heavily – and you can tell it isn’t 100% waterproof as the material got drenched and felt much heavier to wear, which did restrict my movement.
Farah Parka showerproof jacket review: The 19th hole
Overall, I was really impressed with the on-course performance of the Farah Parker Showerproof Jacket. Its stylish camo look and stylish fit won me over as soon as I put it on. The fact it isn’t fully waterproof does hinder its versatility, but it’s a forgivable hindrance at that.
It could be used both on and off the course, but for any sort of parker jacket like this one, I would expect it to be 100% waterproof, especially as other options offer that at very similar price points.
