All the Gear: Dress like Spieth in new Under Armour winter golf gear

Missed any gear releases from the past week? Equipment editor James Savage rounds up the latest news...

We are gearing up for winter golf. Well, I am anyway. I have a wardrobe full of jumpers and jackets which don’t get any use in the summer and I need to justify to the wife that I need them all.

But the last few times I’ve played – at Longcliffe, St Ives and Hillsborough – it wasn’t cold and the condition of the courses has been excellent.

I get it in my head that once we reach October it’s cold, courses are muddy and we’re going to be off mats and temporary greens.

If I keep expecting it to be horrendous, then hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised. But for when it does get bad…

New Under Armour winter golf gear launched

Under Armour are one of the biggest success stories in golf apparel over recent years.

Once famed more for their base layers, the brand have gone on to become market leaders.

Having Jordan Spieth as the face of the brand has certainly helped but their gear has wide-ranging appeal, is loaded with technology and is often at a friendly price point.

Their autumn winter 2017 performance apparel range – as worn by Spieth at Royal Birkdale – features what Under Armour call ColdGear Reactor technology.

They say it is like your own personal thermostat for the golf course.

Always warm, but never too warm, it responds to your climate – warming you up when you are less active, and cooling you down as you heat up to maintain the perfect level of warmth.

Flagship products include the Infrared Reactor Jacket (£125)

Wilson add colour to DX2 golf balls

I’ll be taking a closer look at non-premium golf balls over the next few weeks.

We’ve conducted a massive balls test already in 2017 but I wanted to check the performance of those under £25.

Wilson DX2 Optix

Falling into this category is the new Wilson Staff DX2 Optix.

The low-compression (29) ball has an all-new scruff-resistant Matte outer layer which means it’s available in highly visible Yellow, Orange, Pink, Green and Red colours.

Wilson DX2

Ideal for winter golf as they are easier to find on frosty fairways.
The two-piece ball has been re-designed to include a larger core for increased ball speed and a softer, thinner cover.

More information on the DX2 Optics, which have an SRP of £19.99 can be found on the Wilson Staff website.

Festive Volvik balls

I’m not one for talking about Christmas until mid-December but seeing as we’re on the topic of coloured balls…

Volvik christmas balls

The Volvik Christmas edition box features their Vivid balls in Red, White, Green & Yellow – each with festive decoration around the middle.

Who doesn’t wanting to be pulling these out of a stocking on Christmas morning?

The balls, which have an SRP £15.99 can be purchased from the Brand Fusion website.
