Clyne Golf Club is one of several stunning layouts in the south of Wales, with panoramic views from the highest parts of the course.
The views are very much a part of the experience at Clyne, offering up the Blackpill SSSI (Site of Specific Scientific Interest) and Swansea Bay to the east of the venue.
Don’t let the views lull you in to a false sense of security though! Clyne still has some bite, and if you miss these greens, you could be finding yourself with a treacherous up and down. Add in the sea breeze and fairways lined with gorse and bracken, and you’ve got a glorious spot to play golf.
There is even the option to stay on site at Clyne as well, with the Somerfield Lodge offering a 4* bed and breakfast experience for those who want to just walk out on to the course after their nights’ stay.
History
The history of Clyne Golf Club dates back a little over a century, with the club being founded in 1921. What would become the back nine was constructed first, with the front nine being finished around a year later.
The legendary Harry Colt – designer of Swinley Forest, the New Course at Sunningdale and both the East and West Courses at Wentworth – was the man behind the design at Clyne Golf Club.
In more recent years, there have been improvements and redevelopments to the course, which has gone on to host several Welsh and county amateur events. Most recently, the club hosted the Welsh Women’s Team Championships in 2025.
What makes Clyne Golf Club special?
Colt’s layout remains relatively unchanged, despite the redevelopments and improvements, meaning you still get that feel of the legend at work.
It is also a course where you can score well, and at just over 6,400 yards from the tips, it is not a layout that require long hitting, making it accessible for all golfers!

Where is Clyne Golf Club?
Clyne is located in the south of Wales, just a few miles southwest of the city of Swansea. It sits at the entrance to the spectacular Gower Peninsula in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Blackpill SSSI (Site of Specific Scientific Interest) and Swansea Bay are just a mile to the east of Clyne.
Swansea is home to both the closest train station, and the nearest airport, both within five miles of the golf club. Cardiff Airport – the busiest airport in Wales – is 40 miles to the east and has plenty more flights running each day.
