The NCG Podcast: Breaking down the worn-out agenda against women’s golf
The subject of women’s golf reared its ugly head again recently when Mel Reid asked why a charity event had no female representation.
In this episode of the NCG Podcast, Hannah Holden joins me to not only discuss the backlash against Reid for speaking out, but poignantly break down each argument she faced and explain why, particularly in this game, female golfers are often damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
Hannah also discusses her experiences of playing at club level and the difficulties she faced growing up playing a male-dominated sport – some of which will leave you aghast at how it’s allowed to happen.
Before you listen, I asked Hannah to write a few words.
“Reading the comments under Mel’s tweet was upsetting and emotional,” she says. “But it did make me realise that it is a topic which isn’t spoken about enough
“The ignorance displayed in so many of the responses shows just how much the game of golf is failing to stand up for its women athletes.
“How can it be possible in 2020 that many of the general public still believe women don’t deserve a platform to showcase their talents simply because of the body we were born in?
“I realise in my job that I have a platform to raise awareness and change perception. This is something I, along with my colleagues, need to step up and do more of. So please take the time to listen and understand what it feels like to be a woman in golf.”
