Westwood blasted for ‘sportswashing’ in Twitter spat
What is it with Lee Westwood and Twitter beef at the moment?
First the Englishman had a back and forward with Eddie Pepperell after he took aim the DP World Tour. He then had a spat with ex-footballer Gordon Armstrong over his controversial LIV Golf switch.
And now, seemingly unable to stay off the app, Westwood has gone at it with Brandel Chamblee over “sportswashing” accusations – the same Golf Channel analyst Patrick Reed is suing for defamation.
Ok, there’s a lot to take in there, so let’s get stuck in. After a photo was posted showing the highest paid athletes of all time – of which three golfers are featured – Chamblee took aim at LIV’s “propaganda” machine, accusing the league of inaccurately portraying golfers as “poorly compensated.”
Rarely one to shy away from drama at the minute, Westwood then couldn’t help but get involved, bashing Chamblee for being “misleading as usual.” Ouch. Here’s how the rest of the beef then played out…

The argument follows what has been a rollercoaster past few weeks for Westwood. On top his various Twitter spats, the Englishman came close to winning his first LIV event at Boston, narrowly missing out on the mouth-watering winning prize at The International.
Westwood then competed in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, where Rory McIlroy exposed his fractured relationship with several Ryder Cup allies amid the ongoing LIV turmoil.
