VIDEO: Ted Bishop regrets ‘Lil Girl’ comments
Former PGA of America President Ted Bishop has apologised for the language he used to criticise Ian Poulter but does not believe he should have been fired.
The American was relieved of his duties after an astonishing rant on Twitter and Facebook where he labelled Poulter a ‘Lil Girl’ for his attacks on the Ryder Cup captaincy of both Nick Faldo and Tom Watson.
In an interview with the Golf Channel’s Morning Drive program, Bishop said: “There had been a lot of emotions building up inside me since the Ryder Cup but that’s no excuse, I’ve got to maintain my position as the president of the PGA of America – I can’t be a fan of golf or have personal opinions.
“I really regret what I did and what I said. I wonder if I had used the phrase ‘little boy’ instead of ‘little girl’ would things have been different?
“What I was really trying to say was why don’t we just all grow up.”
