'I miss playing there' – Tiger excited by Augusta return

Tiger Woods heads to The Masters in his best form for years

Tiger Woods has now completed his preparation for his bid to win a fifth Masters title.

Woods claimed a top-5 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, won by Rory McIlroy, completing a fine return for the 14-time major champion in 2018, which has also seen him finish T23 at Torrey Pines, 12th at the Honda Classic, and tied for 2nd at the Valspar. His only blip came with a missed cut at the Genesis Open.

Woods told reporters his recent run is “extremely pleasing” before adding: “If you would have given me this opportunity in December and January I would have taken it in a heart beat.”

Next up is a first trip down Magnolia Lane since 2015.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “I haven’t really thought that much about it, especially this week. I’ve been grinding and focusing on this week.

“Now the tournament’s over, I’ll start to make some changes for Augusta, what kind of equipment setup I’m going to go with, some things I want to do with my swing. As crazy as this may sound I haven’t putted on bent grass in two years.

“I’m looking forward to it. I miss playing there, I’ve been there for the dinner and as great as that is, it’s frustrating knowing that I’m, I would have to say, young enough to play the event, where some of the other champions are not, and I just have not been able to physically do it, which is difficult.

“I’ve had a lot of success there, too, so really looking forward to getting up there and doing a bit of work and getting a feel for the golf course and basically feel for playing that style of golf again.”

Woods, who moved up to 105th in the world rankings, has a lifetime exemption at The Masters as a former champion, while 2018 marks the last of his 10-year exemption at the US Open.

The Open Championship offers exemption to past champions up to the age of 60, while the PGA Championship also offers lifetime entry.
