Rory McIlroy joins stellar Scottish Open fieldMay 1, 2015 Golf News
The reigning Open champion become fourth successive person to win after appearing in Scottish Open last year
World Number One Rory McIlroy “cannot wait” to appear at this years Scottish Open, after confirming his appearance at Gullane as he prepares to defend his Open title at St Andrews.
“Adding the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open to my schedule in 2014 proved to be a great move, as it allowed me to get four competitive rounds of links golf under my belt a week before The Open,” said McIlroy. “It is great to have this fantastic event, played on some of the best links courses in the world, and then to move on to the Open Championship the following week.

“Last year I started really well and had two good rounds over the weekend but a disappointing second round set me a little too far back to contend.
“So, this year I’m keen to pick up where up I left off and hopefully be right up there on Sunday afternoon.
“I know Gullane from my amateur days as it has hosted a lot of great Scottish amateur events.
“I can’t wait to get back to see the composite Championship course and test my game against a very strong field.”
McIlroy’s inclusion further strengthens an already strong line-up at Gullane Golf Club, which hosts the event for the very first time.
With a prize fund of £3.25 million, the 25 year old Northern Irishman will appear for the second season running after returning to the event for the first time since 2009.
With this event a week before The Open, this will give McIlroy a final opportunity to hone his links game in Scotland before heading to St Andrews to defend the Claret Jug.
The reigning Open and US PGA Champion became the fourth successive person to capture the Claret Jug the week after playing in the Scottish Open, following in the footsteps of Darren Clarke (2011), Ernie Els (2012) and Phil Mickelson (2013).
Defending champion Justin Rose, Luke Donald, Phil Mickelson and Matt Kuchar have already confirmed their appearances at the tournament, with more expected to follow in the coming weeks.
