Memorable Tiger moments at Torrey Pines
Torrey Pines has been one of Tiger Woods’ main hunting grounds during his career. The Big Cat has won 14 times, six as an amateur and eight as a professional including one US Open.
Quick 9 runs down his best moments at the California course.
1. Putt on 18th to force US Open Play-Off
One of the most iconic Tiger celebrations of all time. With the pressure firmly on, Woods was required to hole a 12 foot birdie putt to force an 18 hole play-off with Rocco Mediate the next day.
2. “He’s just got shots we haven’t imagined yet”
One of the best recovery shots you’ll ever see. It’s hard to put into words what Tiger was/is capable of…
3. Chip in on the 17th
Struggling with his leg during the third round of the 2008 US Open, Tiger was left with an awkward shot from the lip of the bunker.
He didn’t quite hit it how he wanted to but the ball still somehow managed to find it’s way to the bottom of the cup.
4. Breaks the course record
Tiger shot the course record at Torrey Pines during the 1999 Buick Invitational. His third round of 62 set him on his way to winning for the first time on the course as a professional.
5. Makes it four wins and annihilates the field
Just 12 months after making it a hat-trick as a professional at the course, Tiger destroyed the field on route to making it four wins in a row and six wins in total atTorrey.
6. Youngest junior chmapion
In 1991 Tiger became the first 15 year-old to win the 15-17 section in the Junior World Championships.
7. Eighth win as a professional
Tiger broke 70 in his first three rounds of the 2013 Farmers Insurance before a final round of 72 secured a four shot victory over Brandt Snedeker and his eighth professional win at Torrey Pines.
8. Misses the cut for the first time
Rounds of 76 and 72 weren’t enough to keep Tiger in the tournament for the weekend as he missed the cut at an event at Torrey Pines in 2017.
9. Incredible stats
To sum up Tiger’s dominance at Torrey Pines. This stat is just incredible…
Notable players, with terrific careers, with 8 official PGA Tour wins including 1 major: Geoff Ogilvy, Justin Rose, Mike Weir.
Tiger Woods has 8 official PGA Tour wins, including 1 major, at Torrey Pines alone.

Matthew has been playing golf since he was around 13 and took up the game at a local nine-hole municipal course with his friends before joining Pontefract & District Golf Club just over the hedge.
Still a member of Pontefract with a handicap of 3, he currently sits on the board of directors to help with digital and marketing initiatives in order to improve membership and visitor income.

Not one to change his equipment too often, Matthew currently plays the TaylorMade M2 driver which has lasted the test of time in his bag. Elsewhere, you’ll find him using the TaylorMade Stealth 2 three-wood with a Ping G425 Crossover 2-iron to aid his long game.
Through his 4-iron to Gap Wedge, Matthew uses the Ping i500 irons accompanied by Ping’s Glide 3.0 56-degree and 60-degree wedges.
Another club that has stood the test of time in his bag is a Nike Method Core MC-3i putter which has had to have the SuperStroke grip changed at least three times. Ball of choice is the Titleist ProV1.
