There are plenty of special markets available ahead of the Players. Our tipster picks out a few of the best

The Players Championship is almost here and as always there are plenty of varied betting markets available for the big event. I’ve taken a look at the details of the tournament and picked out a few of special bet selections.

Players Championship special bets: 1st round 3-balls

At the big events betting on the winner of each 3-ball always seems to catch my eye. and this week is no different.

Looking at the first round groupings a couple of selections stand out to me – Xander Schauffele (11/8 with bet365to beat Justin Rose and Adam Scott and Daniel Berger (13/10to beat Chez Reavie and Graeme McDowell.

Schauffele did miss the cut here last year but a 2nd place the year before offer encouragement. He’s in decent form and as we know he likes to perform in the big events. Rose and Scott are both coming off the back of dreadful weeks at the Arnold Palmer and I don’t fancy their fortunes to change too much this week.

Berger is enjoying some good form again and has three top 10s in his last three starts and I expect that to continue and him to go better than his partners on day one. The double on these two selections is just over 4/1 with bet365 and offers a price I’m more than happy to take.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout (4/1looks to be an astute selection in this market. He sits behind Louis Oosthuizen (7/4) and Erik van Rooyen (7/2) but on the back of a good performance at Bay Hill he’s the most attractive at the price. His final round of 79 saw him slip to 18th but in tough conditions he can be excused a little.

Neither Bezuidenhout nor Van Rooyen have played in the tour’s marquee event before but have both been impressive on their early starts in the USA.

Oosthuizen’s form at Sawgrass is patchy at best with a 2nd place in 2017 somewhat of an anomaly among missed cuts and mid-field finishes.

With his good recent form and the ability to look comfortable around new layouts he looks well worth backing.

Players Championship special bets: Lowest round

There are three options in this market – 63 or under, exactly 64 or 65 or over.

I like the former of those selections at 13/10 and wouldn’t be surprised if we see more than one round of 63 or lower. Since 2015 there have been 10 rounds under 65 and seven of those have been 63s.

With the conditions looking good for the week and the wind not looking to be too much of an issue at this point there could well be some strong scoring.
