Injured Pettersen out of the Solheim Cup, Matthew steps in
Nobody saw this coming. Suzann Pettersen is out of this year’s matches after slipping a disc over the weekend. Pettersen was limited to some putting in Tuesday’s practice session and she released a statement on her Instagram account explaining that she wouldn’t be able to tee it up on Friday.
Pettersen made most of the headlines in Germany two years ago when Europe claimed the 17th hole against Alison Lee and Brittany Lincicome which then sparked an American comeback which culminated in a 14.5-13.5 victory.
Catriona Matthew, who is in the States as a vice-captain, will step in for her ninth appearance. The Scot was involved in Tuesday’s practice and is a very able deputy. Matthew has earned 19 points from 33 matches and has played on three winning teams – it is likely that she will be the captain at Gleneagles in two years.
Sörenstam said: “It’s unfortunate that Suzann has to withdraw due to her back injury. The Solheim Cup has been such an important part of her career. It was a very tough decision, but I am proud of her and she will still be a leader this week. Catriona is a proven Solheim Cup performer who will be able to step right in and play with anybody. She’s ready to go.”

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
