About In Gee Chun

In Gee Chun

South Korean superstar In Gee Chun is a two-time Major winner on the LPGA Tour.

The 22-year-old has won the US Women’s Open in 2015 and then clinched her second with victory at the Evian Championship last month.

She started playing golf at the age of nine and turned professional in 2012.

She joined the LPGA of Korea Tour (KLPGA) in 2013 and was sensational in her rookie year, winning a Major title in the form of the Korea Women’s Open.

Chun did not miss a cut in her rookie year, finishing no worse than 33rd. She had nine top 10 finishes and was third on the KLPGA money list.

She had another fantastic season in 2014, winning several tournaments. However, 2015 has been her greatest season to date.

She won the World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup in May, one of four Major title on the LPGA of Japan Tour (JLPGA).

Chun followed that up by winning the US Women’s Open as a non-member of the LPGA. The victory at the age of 20, meant she became the third youngest woman to ever win the US Women’s Open.

That triumph earned her a tour card for the LPGA in 2016.

A few weeks later she won the KLPGA’s third Major of the season, the Hite Cup, and followed that up by winning the Japan Women’s Open on the JLPGA.

Her fourth Major of the year arrived in late October when she clinched the KLPGA KB Star Finale.

She recorded five wins on the KLPGA in 2015 en route to being crowned Player of the Year.

In 2016, she secured her second LPGA Major after winning the Evian Championship. She joined compatriot Se Ri Pak as the only two players in LPGA Tour history to win Majors as their first two LPGA Tour titles.

Her score of 21-under-par is the lowest winning score in a Major tournament for either men or women.

The current world No 3 also represented South Korea at the Rio Olympics, finishing tied 13th.
