Tip: How to cope with those awkward sidehill lies
As we play our way round the course we soon recognise that the ground is never quite perfectly level.
It’s important to understand just how these uneven lies can affect our ball flight and the adjustments we have to make before we attempt to make the shot.
How to hit the sweet spot on the club every time
Important changes need to be made to our set-up and swing to account for the downward slope with the ball being lower than the normal position for the club length.
Technique
- Aim – The backswing and through swing can be made as normal.
- Body alignment – Your body will align parallel to the aim of the clubface
- Club – We need to hold the club a little further up toward the base of the grip to account for the extended reach
- Stance – We will need to bend down slightly more than average to ensure we reach the ball through our swing with the ball slightly closer to the centre of our stance.
