Callaway launch their first adjustable driver
Adjustability in drivers is nothing new, so when Callaway revealed their first adjustable driver at a media launch recently, many asked why it had taken so long for them to go down this route.
They indicated that, instead of running into using the technology, they wanted to perfect it and ensure their driver did not sacrifice performance in order to have it.
Dr Alan Hocknell, Callaway’s English-born R&D head, said: “Callaway is not just entering the adjustability race with the introduction of RAZR Fit, we are taking the pole position. The adjustable features and other proprietary technologies allow golfers to play a more meaningful role than ever before in their journey to optimized performance.”
The RAZR Fit lets users adjust both face angle and clubhead centre of gravity, allowing you to fine-tune your flight, but is also home to many other technologies designed to maximise both distance and accuracy.
For a start, the multi-material head has a Forged Composite crown. This unique material, which was engineered in co-operation with supercar giants Lamborghini, comprises 7,000 turbostratic fibres designed to offer lots of strength without being heavy.
Ernie Els added an extra tournament to his schedule just to make sure he was one of the first Callaway players to put the club in play. High praise indeed. This means that the Callaway club builders can position the bulk of the head’s weight where they want it to promote a high, low-spinning trajectory for lots of distance.
The 455cc head, which looks stunning at address and will suit better players, is more aerodynamic than its predecessor (the RAZR Hawk), too, and thus allows users to generate more clubhead speed without additional effort.
All this, combined with a Speed Frame Face that behaves like a trampoline to increase ball speed further, offers exceptional amounts of distance. Indeed, the club caused quite a stir on tour.
The European Tour’s biggest hitter Alvaro Quiros and Phil Mickelson both have one in their bag and Ernie Els added an extra tournament to his schedule just to make sure he was one of the first Callaway players to put the club in play. High praise indeed.
