Golf tips: How to overcome anxiety before a big match
To overcome the anxiety of a big competition, create a three step pre shot routine which will help get you into a rhythm for each golf shot, calming those nerves which could otherwise cost you a few shots on your round.
First, think about the outcome you want from your shot in detail. Eliminate any doubt on where the ball is going to go.
Secondly, create a rhythm for your practise swings. Use examples such as ‘1’ for the takeaway, ‘2’ for the backswing and ‘3’ for the downswing to help your swing find a smooth sequence.
Lastly, reflect on each shot you have played. Think of three helpful thoughts to improve your round.
