It’s a feeling of dread that every golfer has experienced. You’ve hit a tee shot, good or bad, and watched it fly or roll into a fairway bunker. The usual punishment is having to play out sideways or in some cases, backwards. But what do you do when there’s a chance to escape without penalty? How to hit out of a fairway bunker: The main points
First things first, a bunker is an unforgiving place so a clean strike is essential. To give yourself the best chance, it’s vital that you make some adjustments to your pre-swing fundamentals.
Moving the ball position forward in your stance will allow you to hit it on the up and ensure you’re not digging into the sand. As well as this, shifting your weight slightly onto your heels will further encourage that shallow contact.
