The importance of ball position with different clubs
The ball position in your stance will change with every club in your bag.
It’s important to remember this, as many amateurs make the mistake of not adjusting to each and every club within their arsenal.
The ball should never move any further forward than the inside of your leading foot but conversely should never move any further back than the middle of your stance – this is all dependent on what shot you are facing.
But how do we know?
Here’s a quick guide:
Driver – Furthest forward ball position – ball position should be in-line with the leading foot in-step.
Fairway – ball position should be in-line with the leading foot heel.
Irons – ball position should be two thirds toward the leading foot – essentially not quite in the middle of the stance.
Wedges – ball position should be evenly distributed between both feet – middle of the stance.
It’s important to have the right ball position – so that we get the right contact at impact, and therefore the right angle of attack – which will improve our launch angles.
Give it a try when your at the practice range.
