Get the basics of driving right with European Tour star Smith
It’s been proven that you can gain the most on your competition by improving your tee to green game. And a big part of that comes from finding more fairways. I spoke to Jordan Smith, one of the best drivers on the European Tour, to find out the secrets to his success with the big stick.
Golf driving tips: The main points
Smith is regularly near the top of the driving accuracy charts so what can you learn from him?
First of all, the Englishman places a big emphasis on getting the basics right. The margin for error is at its lowest with driver in hand, so it’s vital you give yourself the best chance by at least having everything lined up at your desired target. Additionally, Smith has a stock shot he relies on and has developed feels which allows him to produce this consistently.
From there, the European Tour player uses a simple drill to keep things in check and doesn’t get overly technical when he is forced to stray from his norm.
