How to escape a plugged lie in a bunker
Is there any shot worse than a plugged lie in a bunker? Fear not, West Lancs pro Gavin Abson is here to talk you through it
It’s one of golf’s most terrifying shots – the dreaded plugged lie in a bunker. But if we find ourselves in that position then we probably deserve it as a poor shot has led to it.
First of all, the club you’ll want to use for this infamous shot is the most lofted wedge in your bag.
With a plugged lie, the ball is always going to run and not spin backwards. And depending on the size of the green the angle of the club head will need to be adjusted.
With the setup I’m going to create a steep angle of attack, slightly further back of the stance than you would for a standard bunker shot. And most importantly, I’m gong to make sure I commit to the shot.
