Rory McIlroy is not only one of the most successful players of his era but also one of the biggest hitters.
The four-time major winner from Northern Ireland is ranked first in driving distance on the PGA Tour, averaging just under 320 yards with every shot he hits off the tee.
His explosive swing is often the subject of many swing videos and slow-mo footage montages, and it has helped him to win 26 times on the PGA Tour and spend 122 weeks as world number one. Only three golfers in the history of the game have spent more time at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings than McIlroy.
Of course, you also need finesse and a short game to compete at the highest level and to contend for major championships, which McIlroy has in bundles.
In 2024, he was ranked in the top 25 in strokes gained around the green on the PGA Tour and in the top 60 in strokes gained in putting. However, these numbers pale in significance when compared with his driving numbers. He was fourth in strokes gained off the tee and sixth in strokes gained from tee to green.
Golf is a power game and he has plenty. But what he doesn’t share with many of his professional counterparts which is height. He doesn’t quite have the wingspan of other huge hitters, which is why we are delving into the Rory McIlroy height department.
