Under Armour Drive Pro Spikeless Golf Shoe Review: NCG Summary

Under Armour
4.5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

These golf shoes feel the same as top of the range gym shoes. They’re comfy, but you feel well locked in to the shoe and it is now a part of your performance armoury.

I really like the way the shoes feel throughout the swing, you have a good responsiveness from the ground and feel like you are able to use the shoes to create more torque and speed.

All 3 available colours look great and they are a perfect all year round golf shoe!

Under Armour Drive Pro Spikeless Golf Shoe Review: First Impressions

It is hard not to be excited to wear a pair of golf shoes after reading up on the tech these Under Armour Drive Pro SL golf shoes offer.

Under Armour have employed the knowledge of world renowned biomechanist JJ Rivet and PGA Tour player Jordan Spieth to come up with an entirely new shoe that features the ‘Under Armour Swing Support System’.

This includes smarter traction with Hybrid thermoplastic polyurethane inserts and rubber nubs, Energy-returning UA HOVR™ foam and supportive Charged Cushioning to feel great on the foot, and new lockdown lacing with swing support strap.

Although this style of ‘sporty performance’ shoe isn’t really my personal style, I like the way these golf shoes look. On first try on the upper material feels a little firm and stiff, but I love the way my foot feels in the sole of the shoe whilst swinging and walking.

On Course Testing

I set off in these shoes on a very dewy, Autumnal morning where any non waterproof golf shoes would have been unbearable. It took a few holes and a few swings for the uppers to soften but once they were soft to the shape of my foot they were brilliant.

The new HOVR midsole utilises softer, energy returning foam on the medial side of the foot and paired that with firmer, more supportive materials on the lateral side of the foot to support it through the movement of the swing.

When hitting shots there was no doubt that you had a very solid platform to swing from, no matter what kind of wet and muddy side slope you found yourself on.

I was slightly worried at first look about traction and foot slips with my forever ingrained early extension often causing foot slips this time of year, but the Under Armour drive pro golf shoes kept me upright and swinging with no problem whatsoever.

The whole design of this shoe is about achieving biomechanical correct footwork through the golf swing and it was on the back 9 the shoes really came into their own. I felt secure and locked into the shoe whilst the dial foam cushioning kept me comfortable, I felt like that I could have easily walked another 18 holes in these shoes no problem.

19th Hole

These golf shoes are 100% that, there is no confusion about these being hybrid on course off course shoes, because they are not. Under Armour are a sports performance brand, with these shoes staying true to that.

I wouldn’t wear these shoes anywhere other than the golf course, but would happily wear them over and over again. The shoes come in 3 different colour ways, all of which look great. The shoes were very easy to clean after my round and I’m sure as long as the rubber nubs don’t get worn out you will be happy wearing them for a long time.

Under Armour Drive Pro Spikeless Golf Shoe

I have no issue recommending these shoes to anyone looking for a lightweight, waterproof pair of spikeless golf shoes for this autumn/winter.

I might even get another lighter-coloured pair for spring/summer!
