If you are looking for a new blade, it feels wrong to start anywhere other than Scotty Cameron. They deliver a premium feel and design that and this Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport Putter is no different…
For decades, the Scotty Cameron name and excellence on the greens have been intertwined with each other. With the release of the new Studio Style line, and in particular the Newport model, that reputation continues, but now with a distinctively soft, yet confidence-inspiring edge.
I was fortunate enough to be invited by Titleist to the newly unveiled Scotty Cameron Fitting Barn at Woburn, which is a Tour-level facility in Europe that mirrors the famed California studio. Though access is extremely limited, the experience alone confirmed that when it comes to putter fitting and design, Scotty Cameron is playing a different game altogether.
Here’s my full review of the Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport putter…
NCG Summary
NCG SUMMARY
The Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport is a masterclass in modern putter craftsmanship. It blends classic blade aesthetics with cutting-edge feel and fitting technology, all while staying true to the brand’s relentless pursuit of perfection. Whether you’re a purist or a performance-focused golfer, this putter is built to impress, and perform, on every level.
PROS
Outstanding feel
Looks fantastic
A controlled roll and encourages aggressive putting
From the moment I set my eyes on the Studio Style Newport, I knew it was something special. With a gold-coloured carbon steel face insert, which I thought looked visually sleek and undeniably premium, it felt almost like the putter equivalent of a fine sports car.
Although, these things aren’t just a cosmetic touch. The insert is designed for optimal feel, sound, and roll. In fact, it’s paired with a brand new “chain link” face milling pattern that came from a rather unexpected source: the grill of a classic car spotted by Scotty Cameron himself in Southern California.
That grill-inspired milling isn’t just a novelty. It produces a soft but responsive feel at impact, letting the ball roll true while offering a feedback-rich experience. Compared to previous Scotty models, this one feels noticeably softer. For me, this was a key factor in instilling a bit of confidence when hitting shorter putts.
We are now in an age where there are countless high-MOI putters with bold futuristic looking designs. This is a bit of an anomaly as it brings the putter back to its concentrated roots of feel, flow, and focus.

On Course Testing
What really stood out to me when I tested the Newport is how it encourages a more aggressive stroke without the fear of the ball jumping off the putter face uncontrollably. This allows for confident speed control, which can be argued is the most important skill in putting. The carbon insert and unique milling deliver a superbly dampened yet lively response, ensuring you never feel the need to hold back.
For those who favor a classic blade style putter, the Newport remains a gold standard. But the Studio Style lineup expands on this with 12 distinct head shapes, including Newport Plus, 2.5, Fastback, and Squareback models, each with subtle variations in shape, MOI, and neck configuration.
If you’re someone who struggles with alignment or prefers a slightly more forgiving design, the mid-mallet and wider-body options provide that flexibility without compromising feel.
During my testing, at Prince’s Golf Club, I found this putter held its own against tricky conditions throughout the round rather impressively. What impressed me most though, wasn’t just the feel, but the consistency. The weight distribution delivers a balanced stroke path, and on mid-range putts, you get the sense it almost corrects slight misreads with its forgiveness.
Even the grip was delightful. It utilises a new black grip featuring the same chain link motif and fits comfortably in hand and reinforces Scotty Cameron’s obsessive attention to detail. The weight distribution is also refined, with mass strategically removed from the neck and redistributed to the sole for enhanced balance and stability.
NCG Verdict
Whether you’re a longtime Scotty Cameron loyalist or someone looking for their first blade putter, the Studio Style Newport is a real standout. With unmatched feel, meticulous craftsmanship, and a host of head options tailored to your stroke, it solidifies its place at the top of the putter hierarchy.
