Puma are a massive brand in the shoe industry, and they’ve been a popular choice in the ‘athletic’ golf shoe market ever since Rickie Fowler turned pro in 2009.

Straight out of the box, these shoes feel light but sturdy and look brilliant, so how did we find them? Find out in our Puma Ignite Articulate golf shoe review.

Puma Ignite Articulate golf shoes review: NCG Summary

5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

These Puma shoes are as well-rounded as any golf shoes I’ve worn this year, comfortable, modern design, and have plenty of grip to swing hard in.

The slip-on construction and Puma’s unique PU foam provide a high-energy return out of the shoe and make them extremely comfortable to wear all day.

The lightweight TPU saddle give these golf shoes levels of support and stability you would expect out of more traditional heavy golf shoe.

PROS

  • Ridiculously comfy
  • Smart in all colour options
  • Traction is very good

CONS

  • Fabric tongue and ankle area are tough to keep clean

First Impressions

Rickie Fowler wears these golf shoes. Is that enough supporting evidence to end the review now and send you on your way to the shop to pick up a pair? Well, if it isn’t…

Out of the box, I know these Puma Ignite Articulate golf shoes are going to have plenty of grip. This is something I look for as an early extending, back-foot-slipping golfer, but I know I’ll have no issue with these. Puma have put 8 tornado cleats on the sole and a new traction pattern to ensure I can swing hard and not suffer my usual fate.

These shoes straight away offer superior step-in comfort, eliminating the need to break shoes in, which feels so last decade now. The ignite foam Puma golf have designed offers a snug feel and cushion when walking and feels springy in the swing.

I received a white pair of Ignite Articulate shoes with a silver saddle. I really like where Puma have put the logo, and the saddle really makes your feet feel strapped in. I do worry about how easy to clean the ‘sock’ around the ankle will be if it gets dirty.

The Puma Ignite Aticulate shoes I was sent are a size 7, which is generally the size I order in every pair of shoes apart from FooyJoy. They fit perfectly, and I love how they make my feet feel when wearing them.

On Course Testing

I’ve worn these shoes now for a few weeks, so I’m fairly comfortable commenting on how the Puma Ignite Articulate shoes have been pretty much faultless. I’ve worn them on dry turf at Sand Moor golf club and all day filming instruction content at a slightly damp Celtic Manor, and the performance has been excellent.

I cannot believe how strong and stable I feel in the swing wearing them. I’ve found that more modern casual sporty shoes can often feel almost a bit flimsy when wearing and certainly swinging hard in, but these spiked golf shoes have hit both the comfort and stability nails on the head, giving me the player great versatile performance.

I’ve worn these shoes in the dry and the rain and even walked through some puddles in them, and I have full confidence in their waterproof resistance, with my feet not getting damp once.

The 19th hole

With these being spiked golf shoes, I wouldn’t wear them much further than the golf club bar after a round of golf, but I do really like the way they look with my semi-scruffy chino and untucked polo shirt look I’ve perfected. They also look great with shorts as they have a trainer feel to them.

Something else I love about these shoes is how easy they are to clean up. The driving range I work on can be pretty muddy, but having a synthetic upper means a damp cloth of brush will have them looking like new in no time.

These are right up there as one of the best spiked shoes on the market in 2023. If you can get your hands on some to try them on, I have no doubt you will make the purchase.
