Pressure sensors on a special BodiTrak mat highlight how a golfer interacts with the ground during the swing and can determine whether they would benefit from a more stable or more mobile shoe.
Three ‘Performance Fit’ types have been identified – Mobile, Dual and Structured.
At one end of the spectrum we have FJ Icons which are said to be the most stable while FreeStyle are at the other end as FootJoy’s most mobile shoe to date.
Those who are Dual could benefit from something in the middle like a DryJoy Casual, Contour or VersaLuxe.
An algorithm was creates using data from thousands of swings and careful evaluation of how
golfers respond differently to different types of footwear.
A number to tour players were used for testing and Players saw performance increases of up to 3 mph of club head speed when properly Performance Fit.

“We’ve been making golf shoes for over 100 years and, with a singular focus on the game of golf, we’ve learned a lot about golfers and their footwear said Doug Robinson, FootJoy’s VP Golf Footwear Worldwide.
“But this project allowed us to look at the link between golf footwear and performance in a totally different way.
“Structured shoes, like ICON Black or DryJoys Tour, are ideal for 30 per cent of the golfing population, based on our testing,” continued Robinson.
