First Impressions

This has the largest profile of any of the TSR fairway woods which I think is very confidence-inspiring behind the ball. The face is also slightly deeper which I think works really nicely when hitting off a tee peg.

NCG Verdict

I first tested this at the Titleist Performance Centre at Woburn Golf Club and was really intrigued by the concept as I typically don’t feel that confident hitting a small-headed 3-wood off the tee.

The larger and deeper club head is very confidence-inspiring off a tee peg but personally, I found it slightly intimidating off the deck off as it felt like I was going to catch the club off the bottom of the face. I didn’t need to worry as I found it launched nice and high.

I really loved the sound and feel of this, it felt exceptionally fast and powerful off the face.

Due to the larger club head, this felt the most forgiving of the three models. My carry distance was remarkably consistent across the board, and I controlled the direction of my misstrikes exceptionally well. This is key to a club that will ultimately be used as a driver alternative as you want to stand on the tee and feel confident you will put the ball in play.

This was the longest of the three fairway woods, which you would expect given the stronger loft. I averaged 216.8 yards off the deck with this and 223.6 when hitting off a tee peg.

Although this is a stronger lofted club, you can still hit this off the fairway. It isn’t quite as easy to launch as other models off the deck as it is lofted at thirteen degrees. I have a high ball flight, so it worked for me, but it is something to think about if you don’t hit it that high. I think from the fairway; it would work best for high club speed players who will generate more spin and height.

Overall, this is a perfect option if you want something that can work as a driver alternative. If, however, you want something more versatile from the fairway and the tee, I would look at the TSR2 model.
